Cass County Seal

PurkhiserCass County’s seal was designed by longtime Cassopolis resident Vivian Purkhiser, who was approached by the County in the 1980s to create a logo representative of the County. The result was a gold compass featuring five graphics that portray Cass County:

  • A log cabin to pay homage to Cass County’s history and iconic Log Cabin Museum
  • Two sailboats to illustrate the many water sports available on the County’s more than 200 lakes
  • A recreational vehicle depicting the many camping opportunities
  • A tall stalk of corn as tribute to our agricultural spirit
  • A large hog to represent the County’s livestock contributions to the U.S.

Purkhiser was recognized for her work by the Cass County Board of Commissioners in October 2021, when an art installation of some of her other pieces was featured.
